Smoothie and Popcorn Night

If you could pick a favorite snack or treat for your family, what would it be?  For my family, it's smoothies and popcorn.  Even our dog drools over, and comes running, at the sound of popping kernels!  We frequent the local smoothie place, and have popcorn/movie nights from time to time, but once a month, we declare it smoothie and popcorn night for dinner, and it's usually a family effort.

We use a Whirley Pop on the stove top.  Aidan, has been taught the fine art of hand cranking the kernels around the bottom of the pan so the oil coats them evenly.  Dad takes over as the popping sound that echoes in the kitchen becomes louder, so Aidan and I can blend the smoothie ingredients.

Our favorite smoothie recipe is pretty simple...
10 oz strawberries
2 ripe bananas
3 tablespoons honey
1 cup ice cubes
3/4 cup yogurt
Sometimes, we substitute the strawberries for other fruit blends, you can use fresh or frozen, and you can use whatever flavored yogurt you like, we like vanilla.

As the blender buzzes to life and creates a vortex of sweetness, the butter is drizzled, and the salt is sprinkled.

This time, because summer is upon us, we decided to make an extra batch of smoothie mix, and scoop them into our popsicle molds.

A tasty treat to enjoy now, and frozen goodness saved for later!

  2. mmm that looks yummy. I should get Goblin to make his own smoothies - we just cheat and buy the ready made, but DIY is way more fun

    1. It's a Whirley Pop, you can find them online and at Bed Bath and Beyond. I think I've seen them at another retailer but I don't recall which one.
