Never Forget To Play

For the month of February I joined The Daily Play Photo Challenge.  Like Jenny at Let the Children Play, I've fallen in love with Instagram.  I'm not always carrying my nice camera around, and the convenience of a camera phone has come in handy; making Instagram my moment saving friend.  As I began the challenge I found and joined a group of bloggers that started a #playmatters community on Instagram, as well as a great Pinterest board.

There is so much evidence based research on the importance of play, yet we still find ourselves defending it.  It shouldn't be that way, we should be celebrating it; and that's why I joined these photo challenges, so you can see the benefits with your own eyes.  Just search for #thedailyplay and #playmatters on Instagram.  You can find some of my personal photo favorites from the challenge this past month below, and there are even more if you follow littlemoments2embrace.

If you can't see what's really going on, maybe playing yourself is the answer.  Gottfried Bern said, "Whoever wants to understand much must play much."  That's what I'm really taking away from this, not forgetting to play myself.  Play isn't just important for children, it's important for everyone.  How can I scaffold what my children are learning in their play if I don't play?

“We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing."

-George Bernard Shaw

Please share...what is your favorite way to play?

  1. I've been wondering what the hashtag #thedailyplay was. Thanks for enlightening me. I love play, I'm starting to get really into imaginary play with my son, in fact he went to bed an hour late last night because we got so immersed in a game with his soft toys and a pretend beach that i didn't realise it was past his bedtime. TOTALLY WORTH IT.
